Every watch that reaches the collection is inspected by hand before it is listed, movement, case and bracelet checked by our own watchmakers, with the box and papers on hand noted honestly rather than assumed. This is what that inspection actually covers.
Movement
The movement is opened where the case allows it and checked against what the reference should carry, calibre, finishing, and signs of service history. A watch that has been opened by someone other than an authorized service centre is not automatically rejected, most preowned watches have been, but it changes what we tell you about condition and what we quote for it.
Case and bracelet
Case edges and lug flanks are where refinishing shows first: a factory bevel is crisp, a re-polished one is softened and rounded. Bracelet stretch, clasp wear and the fit of end links are checked the same way. None of this is disqualifying on its own, a well-loved watch is still a real watch, but it is exactly the kind of detail we would rather show you under a loupe than leave you to discover later.
Markings and papers
Serial and reference markings, where the manufacturer engraves them, are checked for consistency with the piece itself. Where box, papers or service records exist, we keep them with the watch and tell you plainly when they do not, rather than implying a full set that is not there.
What we will not do
We will not sell a watch we cannot stand behind, and we will not represent a piece as something it is not, an aftermarket part described as original, a service history invented rather than disclosed as unknown. If we are not confident in a piece, it does not reach the collection.
We are independent, not authorized
Yousef Watch is an independent specialist. We are not an authorized dealer for, and are not affiliated with, any of the maisons we carry; brand names are used only to identify the pieces on offer. Our authentication is our own process, built on the same checks any serious independent dealer or watchmaker relies on, not a manufacturer certification.
Frequently asked questions
Do you use manufacturer certification to authenticate watches?
No. We are an independent dealer, not an authorized one, so we do not have access to manufacturer certification. Our authentication is an in house inspection of movement, case, bracelet and papers, by our own watchmakers.
What if a watch has been serviced outside an authorized centre?
It is not disqualifying, most preowned watches have been. We check what was done and disclose it honestly rather than assume either way, and it is reflected in how the piece is priced.
