The Code 11.59 name refers to the minute before midnight. It's AP's shorthand for a collection meant to signal a new direction rather than another Royal Oak variation, launched at SIHH in January 2019. Steel versions arrived in February 2023 to a warmer reception: new guilloché dials, batons instead of Arabic numerals, and the date window moved from 4:30 to 3 o'clock. This chronograph, in a Bleu Nuit dial with grey counters, was one of three chronographs in that original steel launch.

This Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Selfwinding Chronograph wears a 41mm stainless steel case with a Bleu Nuit dial and grey counters. Calibre 4401 inside, on a textile-pattern rubber strap.

Fun fact: 'CODE' is a backronym (Challenge, Own, Dare, Evolve) laid over a name that was really chosen for the clock reference, one minute to midnight, standing in for a fresh start.

The round Audemars Piguet that turns octagonal from the side

CODE 11.59 launched in 2019, the first wholly new collection the house had introduced since 1993, and round where the Royal Oak is octagonal. Seen face-on, it reads as a plain round watch, but from the side the bezel sits on an octagonal middle case, and the hollowed, open-worked lugs attach to the bezel alone, floating clear of the case with a visible gap beneath them. The double-curved sapphire crystal is the other tell.
