The reference in depth
The Traditionnelle case draws on the house's own archive: a stepped bezel, a fluted caseband and lugs that fall away sharply, cues that trace back to historic Vacheron pocket watch construction rather than to any single mid century model. In 43mm platinum, with a chronograph running alongside the perpetual calendar, it reads less as a dress watch than as a serious complication piece.
Platinum at Vacheron is usually a small series, and the house signals it quietly: platinum thread in the strap stitching and a PT950 mark rather than anything on the dial. Here the dial is slate opaline, matt and grey and slightly different under every light. Nothing on it shouts, which suits a calendar chronograph in a heavy metal.
Calibre 1142 QP is hand wound, with roughly 48 hours of power reserve. A column wheel chronograph drives a 30 minute counter at three and small seconds at nine, alongside a perpetual calendar showing day, date, month, leap year and moon phase. Left running, it needs no calendar correction until 1 March 2100. Vacheron gives the moon phase a deviation of one day in 122 years.
Platinum is the story on the wrist. At 43mm the case wears its full diameter, and the metal carries weight that a gold case of the same shape does not, so it settles and stays put. Try it on before deciding, because this is a watch you feel. The slate dial keeps the calendar registers and the chronograph counter readable without glare, which matters at this size.
What happens if it stops?
Nothing is damaged. You wind it, set the calendar forward to the correct day, date, month and leap year, then set the time. On a perpetual that takes patience, which is why owners of hand wound perpetuals tend to wind them daily rather than let them run down.
How does platinum feel compared with white gold?
Different straight away. The metal is denser, so the watch sits heavier on the wrist, and the colour is a softer, slightly darker grey than polished white gold. At 43mm, with a chronograph and a calendar on board, you notice both.
Is 43mm a lot of watch?
It is, and honestly so. The size carries the chronograph counter and the calendar registers without crowding them. If you want a perpetual that hides under a cuff, the smaller Traditionnelle and Patrimony calendars are the ones to look at.

Traditionnelle is Vacheron Constantin's classical line, drawn on the Geneva watchmaking traditions the house dates to the 18th century. It grew out of the Patrimony family and carried the Patrimony Traditionnelle name in its early years, worth knowing when you search older references. The design codes hold across the range: a stepped round case and lugs, a slim bezel, a fluted caseband, a chemin de fer minute track and dauphine hands with applied gold markers, and the Hallmark of Geneva on the mechanical calibres. The family covers time only models, complete and perpetual calendars, world time, tourbillons and minute repeaters, cased in white gold, pink gold and platinum, with small quartz models alongside them.
