Authenticity is not the question

A grey market watch is a genuine watch. The term describes the sales channel, not the product, an authentic Rolex bought from an independent dealer is still an authentic Rolex. Counterfeiting is a separate, real problem, which is exactly why authentication at the point of sale matters more on the independent market than it does at a boutique, where the brand has already vetted the piece before it reaches the counter.

Price and availability

Authorized boutiques sell at the brand's set retail price, when they have stock, which for the most requested references, a steel sports watch in particular, they often do not. The independent market exists because demand outpaces that allocation: prices move with real supply and demand rather than a fixed number, which can mean a premium on the hardest references and a discount on ones currently out of fashion. We quote each piece individually for exactly this reason rather than posting a fixed list.

Warranty, honestly

This is the one place the channel genuinely matters, and it varies by brand and by piece, so we will not promise a blanket answer here. Many manufacturers will service a genuine watch regardless of where it was bought, once authenticity is confirmed. A formal retailer warranty card, the kind an authorized boutique issues at first sale, typically stays with that original sale rather than transferring automatically to a later owner. Why the dealer matters more here

With no brand gatekeeping the sale, the independent market puts the real work on the dealer: authenticating properly, disclosing condition honestly, and standing behind what they sell. That is the whole reason our own inspection process exists, and why we would rather show it to you than ask you to take it on faith.
