The Datejust of 1945 was the first self-winding waterproof chronometer to show the date in a window on the dial, and it set the template every Rolex dress watch still follows: the Oyster case, the fluted bezel and the Jubilee bracelet designed for it that same year. The current 36mm generation arrived in 2018 around calibre 3235 and its 70 hour power reserve.

This Rolex Datejust 36 wears a 36mm Oystersteel and Everose gold case and a chocolate dial with index markers. Calibre 3235 inside, on an Oystersteel and Everose gold Jubilee bracelet.

Fun fact: Rolex casts its own gold in a foundry at its Geneva headquarters, and Everose includes a small amount of platinum so the pink colour does not fade with time.

Rolex launched the Datejust in 1945, the company's fortieth year, as the first self winding chronometer wristwatch to indicate the date in a window on the dial. The Jubilee bracelet was made for that watch and named for the anniversary, and it carries the same name today. The Cyclops lens over the date and the fluted bezel are the other two tells, though smooth and gem set bezels and the Oyster bracelet sit alongside them. The line now runs from the Lady-Datejust at 28 mm through 31, 36 and 41 mm, in steel, in gold and in the two combined, across a wide spread of dials.
