Rolex has paired Oystersteel with gold on the same watch since 1933 and calls the combination Rolesor. On the Datejust 36 the gold is the bezel, the crown and the centre links of the bracelet, and in this case it is Everose, the rose gold alloy Rolex has cast in its own foundry since 2005.

This Rolex Datejust 36 wears a 36mm Oystersteel and Everose gold case and a white mother-of-pearl dial set with diamond hour markers. Calibre 3235 inside, on an Oystersteel and Everose gold Jubilee bracelet.

Fun fact: Mother-of-pearl is cut from the nacre lining a shell, thin enough to sit under the hands, so the play of colour on this dial is unique to it.

Rolex launched the Datejust in 1945, the company's fortieth year, as the first self winding chronometer wristwatch to indicate the date in a window on the dial. The Jubilee bracelet was made for that watch and named for the anniversary, and it carries the same name today. The Cyclops lens over the date and the fluted bezel are the other two tells, though smooth and gem set bezels and the Oyster bracelet sit alongside them. The line now runs from the Lady-Datejust at 28 mm through 31, 36 and 41 mm, in steel, in gold and in the two combined, across a wide spread of dials.
