Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked (Blue Ceramic)

The Double Balance Wheel Openworked line is Audemars Piguet's answer to what happens when you take Gérald Genta's 1972 Royal Oak, strip its movement to a skeleton, and then complicate the skeleton further rather than simplify it. Since debuting in 2016 the family has served as AP's rolling materials showcase, steel and gold at first, now this deep blue ceramic, each new colour less a horological advance than a fresh finish on the same 41mm octagon.

This Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked wears a 41mm blue ceramic case with an openworked dial in rhodium-toned steel and rose gold. Calibre 3132 inside, on an integrated ceramic bracelet with a titanium folding clasp.

Fun fact: the double balance wheel is not styling. Calibre 3132 mounts two balance wheels and hairsprings on a shared axis so their positional errors average each other out, and AP leaves both fully exposed on the dial rather than hiding the party trick under a bridge.
